Eidos-Montreal, the video game studio behind Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Tomb Raider games, has experienced another round of layoffs, with more employees leaving the company over the past week.
Several former staff members shared their departure news on LinkedIn, including Samuel Daher, who was the gameplay director at Eidos-Montreal. He wrote, “Hey there! Was working at Eidos, loved it and would have stayed, but times are difficult.”
At least a dozen people have lost their jobs, making this the second wave of layoffs at the studio this year. Back in March, 75 employees were let go, with the company explaining that the cuts were due to "mandates coming to an end."
Despite hopes that the layoffs might be over, sources say the situation isn’t looking good for Eidos-Montreal. Insider Gaming has reported that most of the studio’s ongoing projects have now been canceled. Right now, the studio is focused on its work with Microsoft and Xbox, particularly on titles like Grounded 2 and Fable.
There is also a separate internal project that started back in 2019, but sources have said that this project is unlikely to make back its current costs.
