According to recent reports, NBA 2K League has announced sweeping changes for the upcoming 2025 season. The league, facing challenges in viewership and engagement since its inception in 2018, has announced upcoming changes.
Under the leadership of Andrew Perlmutter, who assumed the role of CEO in September 2023, the league has taken drastic steps. Recently, a significant number of broadcast staff, general managers, and coaches were laid off as part of a comprehensive revamp. The decision, reportedly executed "in 10 minutes".
NBA 2K League has struggled to sustain growth in viewership throughout 2023 and 2024. Andrew Perlmutter will aim to direct the 2K League to a different direction.
Following these developments, Jamie 'Dirk' Diaz Ruiz, a former NBA 2K League commentator, disclosed on Twitch speculations about a prolonged hiatus, paving the way for a revamped league's return in 2025.
