Sony has announced a price increase for its PlayStation Plus subscription service in Canada, marking the first hike since September 2023. In a notice sent to subscribers, the company cited its commitment to maintaining “high-quality games and benefits” as the reason behind the adjustment.

According to the email, the annual cost of the PlayStation Plus Extra subscription will now be CAD $189.99, up from the previous price of $154.99. While Sony emphasized the value of its content offerings, including access to the PS Plus Game Catalog and free monthly titles, the company has not introduced any new features or perks to coincide with the price change.

The updated Canadian pricing for PlayStation Plus tiers is as follows:

Essential (12 months) — CAD $110 (up from $95)

Extra (12 months) — CAD $190 (up from $155)

Premium (12 months) — CAD $225 (up from $190)

The pricing overhaul extends beyond Canada. Sony confirmed similar adjustments are being rolled out across several other regions, including South America and Australia. In addition, the company recently announced price increases for certain PlayStation 5 consoles in regions such as Europe, the UK, and New Zealand.

While Sony has not commented on whether international tariffs are influencing the hikes, some industry analysts suggest trade factors may be contributing globally—not just within the U.S.
