Twitch is fined over $300k from the South Korean government for breaching laws, as the platform gears up to discontinue its services in the country. Like the rest of the gaming industry Twitch is going through tough times, the company fired 500 employees recently.

According to reports, Korean Telecommunications Commission (KCC) determined Twitch's decision to reduce stream quality in 2022 and terminate VOD access for Korean users in 2023 regulations. Following this verdict the KCC has imposed a fine of 435 million won, equivalent to $327k, and mandated Twitch to prepare refunds for affected users.

Korean regulators stated that Twitch must provide substantial evidence to justify any reductions or terminations of user services as essential for operational continuity. Despite requests, Twitch declined to justify its decisions.
