Ubisoft's long-gestating Splinter Cell movie adaptation has been officially cancelled, according to producer Basil Iwanyk. Iwanyk, who came on board the project in 2013, confirmed that the film is no longer in production.
“The movie would have been awesome [...] just couldn’t get it right, script-wise, budget-wise," Iwanyk said. "But it was going to be great. We had a million different versions of it, but it was going to be hardcore and awesome. That’s one of the ones that got away, which is really sad."

The Splinter Cell film had been in development since 2012, but struggled to get off the ground. Variety reported that Tom Hardy was set to star as Sam Fisher, the iconic protagonist of the stealth-action game series. Doug Liman (known for Edge of Tomorrow) was attached to direct in 2014, but after that, the project languished without further updates.
