Mike ‘Hastr0’ Rufail has reclaimed ownership of Envy from OpTic Gaming. Along with this acquisition, Rufail also shared plans to bring Envy into Apex Legends and announced the addition of the Dallas Fuel and Dallas Empire brands, which were previously part of the Overwatch and Call of Duty leagues.

Rufail broke the news on January 18th via a post on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account, accompanied by a video celebrating the legacy of Envy’s past rosters. He later clarified that, following the transaction, he would no longer be affiliated with OpTic and would no longer hold any shares in the organization. Envy’s social media accounts are also expected to be transferred to his team later this week.

Envy, which was founded in 2007 as Team EnVyUs, has had a long history in North American esports, competing in games like Counter-Strike, StarCraft, and Overwatch. In 2021, Envy merged with OpTic Gaming, leading to the rebranding of the Dallas Empire into OpTic Texas. Rufail, who had been Co-Owner and CEO of Envy since 2009, also joined OpTic as Co-Owner and Chief Gaming Officer following the merger.
