|content=The Apex Legends Global Series delivered one of its most unforgettable moments yet as the ALGS Year 5 Championship wrapped up in Sapporo, Japan. In a stunning upset, the unsigned, orgless team Oblivion emerged victorious, etching their names into esports history with a dramatic Match Point Finals win.

This North American trio, Miguel "Blinkzr" Quiles, Bowen "Monsoon" Fuller, and Brandon "FunFPS" Groombridge, came together in September 2025 and defied all odds to lift the trophy. Blinkzr earned MVP honors for his standout performance, a huge leap from his 36th-place finish in the previous year's championship. 

He gained attention years ago with a memorable Kraber shot against Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek and has suited up for teams like FlyQuest and Complexity. FunFPS, a scene veteran since 2019, had stints with big names including NRG in 2025, XSET in 2023, and Team Liquid in 2022, but this marked his first ALGS Championship triumph.Blinkzr rounded out the roster, having competed in the North American scene since 2022 and previously teaming with FunFPS on Movistar KOI.Oblivion's Road to the TopThe path wasn't easy for this underdog squad. 

They punched their ticket to the Sapporo LAN by winning the Last Chance Qualifiers in the Americas region back in October 2025. In the Group Stage, they scraped by with a 19th-place finish out of 40 teams, just enough to advance to the Upper Bracket.Things got tense when they dropped to the Lower Bracket Round 2, facing elimination. But the team fought back hard, securing third place in the bracket to earn their spot in the Finals. While all three players had prior Championship experience, this was their first time hoisting the title.The grand finale unfolded over nine intense games in the Match Point format. 

Ten teams, including Oblivion, hit the 50-point threshold to become eligible for the win. The pressure peaked in the final match on Storm Point. As the ring tightened around The Pylon, Oblivion fortified their position with Wattson fences, holding one of the strongest spots. Teams started dropping fast, leading to a nail-biting three-way battle among Supernova, Hotdog Mafia, and Oblivion—the last Match Point eligible squad standing.

In a bold, decisive push during the chaotic north-side gunfight, Oblivion caught their opponents off guard and sealed the deal with 13 kills. The crowd erupted as the underdogs claimed the crown. Their reward? The biggest slice of the $2 million prize pool, walking away with $600,000. 

This victory stands out as a true Cinderella story: the first team to win the Championship after starting in the Last Chance Qualifiers, and one of the few unsigned rosters to ever take the top spot.
