{{News |seo_title=Baldur's Gate TV Series Announced |seo_keywords=Baldur's Gate |image=Hbologo.jpg |tags=HBO |date=2026-02-06T14:31:51.000Z |sources={{NewsSource |source=Games Industry |url=https://www.gamesindustry.biz/baldurs-gate-to-be-adapted-into-hbo-series |article=News/Baldur's Gate TV Series Announced }} |author=Andura |category=More |content='''TL;DR''' *HBO officially greenlights a Baldur's Gate TV series led by The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin. *The series will continue the story of Baldur's Gate 3, featuring both new and returning characters. *The adaptation will exist alongside Netflix’s live-action Dungeons & Dragons universe. HBO has officially given the green light to a Baldur's Gate television series, with The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin set to lead the adaptation. According to Deadline, Mazin will take on multiple roles for the project, serving as creator, writer, and executive producer. Joining the production is Chris Perkins, former head of story at Wizards of the Coast, who will act as a consultant to help ensure the series remains faithful to the rich lore of the Baldur's Gate and Dungeons & Dragons universe. The upcoming show is confirmed to be a direct continuation of Baldur's Gate 3. Rather than retelling the game’s events, the series will explore the aftermath, following new and familiar characters as they deal with the ramifications of the events in the third game. This approach allows the adaptation to build on existing storylines while opening the door to entirely new adventures. Mazin is also reportedly interested in bringing back some of the original voice cast from the game. Similar to his approach on The Last of Us, he is said to be reaching out to voice actors from Baldur's Gate 3 to potentially take part in the live-action adaptation. While Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios is not directly involved in producing the series, communication between the studio and the show’s creative team has already begun. Larian founder and CEO Swen Vincke shared on social media that Mazin had contacted him during early development. "The endings of BG3 were created so they could serve as narrative soil for new adventures. There's plenty of directions they could go. I'm eager to find out which ones Craig and his team will pick," wrote Vincke. Larian Studios is currently focused on development of the next entry in its Divinity series, leaving the Baldur's Gate adaptation in the hands of HBO and its partners. Deadline also reports that the series is designed to co-exist alongside Netflix’s upcoming live-action Dungeons & Dragons project set in The Forgotten Realms. That series has filmmaker Shawn Levy attached as a producer, signaling a broader expansion of D&D stories across multiple platforms. Craig Mazin shared his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting his personal connection to the game and its world. "After putting nearly 1,000 hours into the incredible world of Baldur’s Gate 3, it is a dream come true to be able to continue the story that Larian and Wizards of The Coast created," said Mazin. "I am a devoted fan of D&D and the brilliant way that Swen Vincke and his gifted team adapted it. I can't wait to help bring Baldur's Gate and all of its incredible characters to life with as much respect and love as we can, and I'm deeply grateful to Gabe Marano and his team at Hasbro for entrusting me with this incredibly important property." }}
