|content=A sealed, early-edition physical copy of Fortnite has stunned collectors after selling for $42,500 at a recent Heritage Auctions event. The item—an Xbox One version bundled with the Storm Master Weapon Pack earned a Wata 10 A++, the highest possible condition rating, significantly boosting its value and cementing its status as one of the most sought-after pieces of Fortnite memorabilia.

What makes this particular copy extraordinary is not only its flawless condition but its place in Fortnite’s timeline. Published by Gearbox in 2017, the physical release arrived before the game exploded into a global phenomenon. At the time, Fortnite existed only as a cooperative survival title built around scavenging and base-building. When [[Companies/Epic Games|Epic Games]] first unveiled it in 2011, Cliff Bleszinski described a very different vision from the battle royale juggernaut fans know today.

The transformation began later in 2017, when Epic introduced its free-to-play battle royale mode. That pivot reshaped the gaming landscape, turning Fortnite into a cultural titan. Its blend of fast-paced combat, regular updates, and high-profile crossover events from superheroes to musicians to film franchises propelled the game into mainstream entertainment. Now entering Chapter 7, Epic continues to expand the universe with collaborations that keep its enormous player base engaged.

In hindsight, the modest $60 retail tag on this 2017 physical edition looks almost quaint. For the collector who preserved it in pristine condition, the auction price represents an extraordinary return. And the market seems energized: one eBay seller is currently asking $7,000 for a similar sealed Xbox One copy, while another aims for $2,800.
