{{News |seo_title=Makea Games Bids Farewell |seo_keywords=Makea Games |image=Makeagamesx.png |tags=Makea Games |date=2025-04-16T11:10:36.000Z |sources={{NewsSource |source=Games Industry |url=https://www.gamesindustry.biz/makea-games-shuts-down |article=News/Makea Games Bids Farewell }} |author=Andura |category=Business |content=Makea Games, an independent Finnish game developer, has announced its closure after more than three years of development efforts, citing mounting economic pressures and challenges in finding a sustainable audience. In a statement posted on the studio’s Steam page, CEO, founder, and creative director Tomi Toikka shared the difficult news, attributing the decision to the "global economic effects" that have severely impacted the company. “It’s been an incredibly tough time in the games industry, and the global economic effects have been hitting us particularly hard,” Toikka wrote. “We worked on Supermoves, Superstrike, and the Makea Editor for north of three years, with over 20 employees contributing to make it the best it could be.” Makea Games' flagship title, Supermoves—a fast-paced parkour game—struggled to attract and maintain a large enough player base to support the studio’s future. Toikka expressed deep disappointment over the game's underperformance, calling it a “passion project, near and dear to all our hearts.” In addition to Supermoves, the studio had also been developing a PvE horde shooter titled Superstrike, which Toikka said “didn’t find its footing in time” before the studio was forced to shut its doors. Although Makea Games continued to support Supermoves with updates, the team acknowledged they could no longer guarantee the game’s online services. Features such as multiplayer playlists, the Makea Editor, user-created content, leaderboards, progression systems, and online lobbies are expected to go offline at some point in the future. However, offline elements—including the single-player career mode—will remain playable without an internet connection.
