* A UK man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his former girlfriend.
* Newly released police footage shows him crying about “missing GTA” during his arrest.
* The video has sparked public backlash due to its tone and timing.

Robert Richens has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of murdering his former girlfriend, with newly surfaced police footage revealing a disturbing detail from the moment of his arrest. The clip, which has circulated widely online in recent days, shows Richens breaking down in tears while expressing concern about missing the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Richens appeared at Oxford Crown Court and was formally sentenced on February 6, 2026. The footage was recorded by officers during his arrest last year and has since drawn strong public reaction due to the contrast between the severity of the crime and his apparent focus at the time.

In the video, Richens can be heard sobbing and blurting out that he was going to “miss GTA”. A police officer responds by asking which entry he meant, to which Richens replies, “Six.” The officer then dismisses the comment, noting that he “had ages” before the game’s release.

According to a report released by Thames Valley Police, Robert Richens, aged 35, received a life sentence with a minimum term of 16 years for the 2025 killing of his former partner, Rachael Vaughan.

Police confirmed that Richens contacted emergency services on the morning of May 30, claiming he had accidentally killed someone. Officers responding to the call later determined that Vaughan had been subjected to a sustained assault that resulted in her death. The court ultimately rejected Richens’ account of events, with prosecutors describing the attack as deliberate and prolonged.

The sentencing judge reportedly highlighted the brutality of the crime and the lasting impact on the victim’s family, stating that the murder showed a complete disregard for human life.

While the viral clip has drawn attention due to its reference to Grand Theft Auto 6, the broader context has fueled criticism of Richens’ apparent lack of remorse during the arrest. Many have described the footage as emblematic of what prosecutors characterized as a “callous” attitude.

Although UK prisons do allow limited access to video game consoles, inmates are restricted to older, offline systems such as the PlayStation 2 or the original Xbox. As a result, Richens is unlikely to ever play Grand Theft Auto 6, or even future entries in the series, during his incarceration.
