|content=Marc-Alexis Côté, the long-time lead of the Assassin's Creed franchise, has left Ubisoft after a remarkable 20-year tenure with the company. The move comes as a surprise, especially given that it follows the recent announcement of Vantage Studios, a Tencent-backed entity created to oversee key Ubisoft franchises, including Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.

Côté joined Ubisoft in 2005 as a software engineer, eventually transitioning into roles that shaped the direction of the Assassin's Creed series. He began as a tools and engine programmer, and later worked as a level designer before being promoted to director in 2010. Since then, he played an integral role in the Assassin's Creed series, serving as creative director, senior producer, executive producer, and ultimately vice president executive producer. Under his leadership, the franchise grew into one of the most successful and influential in the gaming industry.

Despite being offered a position at the newly formed Vantage Studios, Côté reportedly declined the opportunity, a decision that has stirred disappointment within the company. Ubisoft staff were informed of his departure in an email earlier today, in which the company explained that Vantage's leadership team needed to be aligned with the studio’s future goals. Christophe Derennes, co-CEO of Vantage Studios, expressed his disappointment regarding Côté's decision to leave.
