{{News |seo_title=Netflix Will Sell Spry Fox |seo_keywords=Netflix |image=Netflix_Logo.jpg |tags=Netflix |date=2025-12-04T18:33:41.000Z |sources={{NewsSource |source=Games Industry |url=https://www.gamesindustry.biz/netflix-is-selling-spry-fox-back-to-the-studios-founders |article=News/Netflix Will Sell Spry Fox }} |author=Andura |category=More |content=Netflix has transferred ownership of Spry Fox back to the studio’s co-founders, David Edery and Daniel Cook, according to reporting from Game File. The move returns the developer to independent status while preserving its existing partnership with Netflix on Spirit Crossing, the studio’s upcoming MMO. Spirit Crossing will still launch on mobile through Netflix, but Spry Fox is now free to seek publishers for additional platforms. That flexibility also brings financial reality back into focus. The studio must either secure outside funding to remain sustainable or rely on the commercial success of Spirit Crossing. The game will also require design revisions to support monetisation, since it was originally built for Netflix’s subscription ecosystem and did not incorporate traditional revenue models. “We’re so grateful for our time at Netflix and our continued partnership publishing Spirit Crossing next year,” Edery said. “Spirit Crossing was built to connect the world, bring people together and inspire kindness, so being able to bring the game to as many players, across different platforms, is truly the best thing for the game.” Netflix purchased Spry Fox in November 2022 at a time when the streaming platform was rapidly expanding its games business. The Alphabear and Cozy Grove developer was the company’s fourth acquisition in 14 months and its sixth internal studio. Since then, Netflix’s priorities in gaming have shifted. In June 2024, games chief Mike Verdu was reassigned to a new role overseeing generative AI and later departed the company in March 2025. Leadership of the games division was handed to Epic Games veteran Alain Tascan, signaling a broader realignment of Netflix’s investment in the space.
