|content=Supermassive Games, the studio behind The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry, has announced the delay of its upcoming sci-fi horror title Directive 8020 and confirmed a round of layoffs affecting up to 36 employees.

The studio shared the news via a public statement on its social media platforms, citing broader industry pressures as the driving force behind the restructuring.

“The industry remains a challenging and ever-evolving environment,” the statement read. “As we adapt our team structure to better align with these changes, we've had to make the very difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process where we anticipate losing up to 36 of our colleagues.”

Supermassive acknowledged the impact of the move, saying the decision “was not taken lightly,” and emphasized its focus on supporting those affected. “We know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone. Our absolute priority will be to offer full support to all those affected.”

Alongside the layoffs, the studio confirmed that Directive 8020, originally slated for release in 2025, has been pushed back to the first half of 2026. The game serves as the next mainline entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology, marking a new chapter with a shift into sci-fi territory.

Despite the delay, Supermassive assured fans that its other high-profile project, Little Nightmares III, remains unaffected and is continuing development as scheduled.
