|content=Peter Connelly, the composer behind the iconic scores for Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and The Angel of Darkness, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for fraudulently securing a second Covid Bounce Back Loan. The conviction highlights the risks associated with the rapid financial assistance programs put in place during the pandemic.

Connelly, who was well known for his work in the gaming industry, was found guilty of overstating his company's financial turnover in order to secure the loan. The UK Insolvency Service revealed that in 2020, Connelly falsely declared a turnover of £150,000 to obtain a second Bounce Back Loan of £37,500. This was just one month after he had secured a legitimate loan of £22,000 from a different bank.

The Bounce Back Loan scheme, introduced to support businesses struggling due to the Covid-19 pandemic, allowed companies to access quick financial assistance. However, the program restricted businesses to a single loan, and Connelly's inflated financial statements led to his fraudulent claim.

After further investigation, the Insolvency Service found that Connelly's actual turnover was in the region of £58,000, far below the figure he provided in his application.

Connelly was sentenced at Durham County Court on Thursday, July 17. In addition to his prison sentence, he has been disqualified from serving as a company director for six years. This disqualification will prevent him from holding executive roles in UK companies during that period.

Interestingly, Connelly had also shared with the Insolvency Service that he had been given a significant opportunity to reimagine his Tomb Raider music, a project that he had personally invested in. However, he stated that the pandemic caused the project to stall, leaving the details of the potential collaboration unclear.
