|content=Vince Zampella, the founder of Infinity Ward and current head of the Battlefield franchise, has tragically passed away after a car accident on Sunday afternoon.

The incident, first reported by NBC Los Angeles, took place on the Angeles Crest Highway in California. According to the California Highway Patrol, via TMZ, Zampella was involved in a single-vehicle crash around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday. There were two people in the vehicle at the time, both of whom sadly passed away.

Zampella was reportedly driving the car when it veered off the road and struck a concrete barrier. After the crash, which ejected the passenger, a fire broke out, trapping Zampella in the vehicle. The passenger, whose identity remains unknown, died at the hospital.

Zampella, who had been in charge of the Battlefield franchise since 2021, is best known for founding legendary studios Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment. At Infinity Ward, Zampella played a pivotal role in creating the Call of Duty franchise. After leaving Infinity Ward in 2010, he went on to found Respawn Entertainment, which developed hit games like Titanfall. The studio was later acquired by Electronic Arts (EA), where they went on to release games such as Star Wars Jedi and Apex Legends.

In a statement released on Monday, EA expressed that Zampella’s loss was “unimaginable,” noting the profound and far-reaching impact of his work in the gaming industry.
