Early Life

Depoortere was born and raised in Belgium as an only child. She earned her Master's degree in history (2009), sports journalism (2010), and teaching degree (2011) from Ghent University.

Career

Before becoming a prominent esports host, Sjokz was a competitive player in Unreal Tournament '99, participating in several LAN events. Her gaming alias, Sjokz, is derived from the Dutch word for "shocks" and is inspired by her use of the Shock Rifle in Unreal Tournament.

Depoortere began her career in esports journalism, producing content for SK Gaming and ESFi World. She also became well-known through Travis Gafford's YouTube show Whose League is it Anyway?, which led to her being hired as the host for the European League of Legends Championship Series (EU LCS). She later gained a broader audience with her Summoner Recap series on SK Gaming’s YouTube channel, one of the earliest League of Legends-focused shows.

Her hosting career skyrocketed after she became a regular face at League of Legends World Championships. She hosted the event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in 2013 and continued to host several World Championship finals, including those in 2015, 2019, and 2020 (the latter remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
