Earlier this year, Ubisoft accidentally revealed that a Far Cry TV show was being made with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob Mac and Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley. Now the news is fully official. Far Cry is becoming a television series for FX and Hulu, and fans are already wondering what the show will look like.
The Far Cry show will be an anthology, kind of like Fargo, which Hawley also created for FX more than ten years ago. FX says that every season will take place in a new location with a totally different cast. Mac, who used to be known as Rob McElhenney, will be the star and an executive producer for the show’s first season.
Hawley shared why he thinks Far Cry is a great fit for TV. "What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is it's an anthology," he said. "Each game is a variation of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a variation on a theme. To create a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens, is a dream come true. I'm excited to partner with Rob and bring our shared irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the screen."
Mac also stated "Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized," he said. "Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And through it all, my FX family continues to lift me up with their constant belief and support."
FX and Hulu have not given any premiere date yet.
