The 2025 Rocket League World Championship and Fortnite Global Championship will be held in Lyon, France, marking a major esports event for the city.

BLAST will manage the events and tournaments will take place over consecutive weekends in September. Fortnite’s season finale is set for September 6-7, 2025, at the LDLC Arena in Lyon, while the Rocket League World Championship will occur the following week, from September 9-14, 2025.

The 2025 Fortnite Global Championship will feature 33 teams competing for a share of a $2 million prize pool. Teams must earn top finishes at three Major competitions throughout the year to qualify.

The Rocket League World Championship will bring together 20 teams from across the globe, battling for a $1.2 million prize pool. France has seen notable success in Rocket League, with seven former world champions hailing from the country.

In 2024, Fortnite duo Peter ‘Peterbot’ Kata and Miguel ‘Pollo’ Moreno took home first place, earning $400,000 in prize money.

In the previous Rocket League World Championship, Swiss esports organization Team BDS triumphed over G2 Esports in the Grand Finals, securing $300,000.

In recent years, France has been increasing its role in hosting major esports events, having announced plans for a national esports ecosystem in 2023.

Since then, the country has hosted a Counter-Strike Major in Paris and the LEC Season Finals in Montpellier.
