Jumpship co-founder Dino Patti has regained control of the studio following a wave of layoffs at Thunderful last November. Additionally, he has secured shares in Sad Owl Studios, the developer behind Viewfinder.
Patti and Chris Olsen launched Jumpship in 2017 with the goal of turning their action-adventure game Somerville into a successful IP. The studio was acquired by Thunderful in 2022 after the game's release, and Olsen left Jumpship soon after. Patti, meanwhile, took on a role as a strategic advisor for Thunderful during this transition.
With the reacquisition complete, Patti is now focused on relaunching Jumpship "in a new direction."
"I can't lift the veil just yet, but I truly believe the current investment and publishing landscape has gone stale," he said. "It needs a complete overhaul to better serve talented game developers and, most importantly, the players."
He added, "Jumpship has always been about pushing the boundaries of emotions, storytelling, and innovation in gaming. I want to take the company in a completely new direction while staying true to that vision."
