In front of a roaring TwitchCon San Diego crowd, Nina "ilyynina" Fernandez and Vader emerged victorious at the second annual Milk Cup, capturing the title at the world’s premier all-female Fortnite tournament. With a massive $300,000 prize pool and top-tier LAN production, the event showcased not only high-level gameplay but also the resilience and talent of women in esports.
The duo's journey to the championship was anything but straightforward. After a season marked by ups and downs, expectations were low for Nina and Vader. Yet, they approached the Milk Cup with an unwavering belief in themselves — and a plan to prove everyone wrong.
“We went with great vibes, good mental,” Nina shared. “We told ourselves, ‘This is the easiest tournament for us, we will win this no matter what it takes.’”
Their confidence was tested early, with the start of the six-game final being less than ideal. But by game four, something clicked. From that point on, they were locked in, tuning out nerves and the competition alike.
The intense LAN environment, complete with a live audience, could have rattled even the most seasoned pros. For Nina and Vader, though, it became fuel. The crowd didn’t intimidate — it inspired.
“Competing at a massive LAN with a big audience in front of them was nerve-racking at first,” said an observer, “but it soon became another form of motivation.”
