Sony has released its financial results for the first half of fiscal year 2025, revealing major growth across its Game & Network Services (G&NS) division. The company credited higher revenue from PlayStation Plus subscriptions and game software sales for driving performance and has raised its full-year forecast for games revenue.

The PlayStation 5 has now reached 84.2 million lifetime sales, with 3.9 million units sold in the second quarter alone. Meanwhile, Sony’s newest first-party release, Ghost of Yōtei, sold 3.3 million copies since its launch on October 2.

Net sales: ¥5.7 trillion ($36.9 billion), up 3.5% year-over-year

Operating income: ¥268.3 billion ($1.7 billion), up 31.3%

Net sales: ¥3.1 trillion ($20.1 billion), up 5%

Operating income: ¥429 billion ($2.7 billion), up 10%

Game & Network Services:

Net sales: ¥1.11 trillion ($7.19 billion), up 3.7%

Operating income: ¥120.4 billion ($780 million), down 13.2%

Highlights

Growth in Sony’s network services and software segments powered the division’s strong performance.

PlayStation Plus revenue rose 13.7% quarter-on-quarter to ¥182.6 billion ($1.1 billion).

Monthly active users increased to 119 million, up from 116 million a year earlier.

Overall game software sales grew 2.7% year-on-year to ¥629.3 billion ($4 billion).

Breaking it down further:

Physical game sales rose 2.9% to ¥35.3 billion ($228.7 million).

Digital software and add-on content increased 1.6% to ¥568.1 billion ($3.68 billion).
