The long-awaited Total War: Medieval 3 has officially been confirmed by developer Creative Assembly, sparking excitement among fans of the series. While the game is still in its early pre-production stages, Creative Assembly has provided a glimpse into what players can expect, sharing details through a new blog post and an exciting trailer.

Unveiled during Creative Assembly’s 25th anniversary showcase, Total War: Medieval 3 is set to return to the franchise’s historical roots. However, the developers have emphasized that this title is not just another sequel, but a “bold revolution” in the series. Although no release window has been provided, the game is still in its infancy, with Creative Assembly noting that it is currently in pre-production.

The developers promise that Medieval 3 will be "the ultimate medieval strategy sandbox," allowing players to shape realms, rewrite history, and immerse themselves in the Middle Ages like never before. Creative Assembly stated: “Combining meticulous historical authenticity with unprecedented player agency, this is more than a sequel, it’s the rebirth of historical Total War.”

One of the most exciting aspects of the announcement is the reveal of the Warcore game engine, which Creative Assembly described as the “next evolution” of the Total War franchise's proprietary technology. The Warcore engine promises to deliver the most immersive, dynamic, and responsive gameplay the series has ever seen. “As the most advanced technological foundation in the franchise’s history, it empowers developers with a suite of tools that allows for gameplay to be more immersive, dynamic, and responsive than ever before,” the developer explained.

The engine is also designed to evolve over time, meaning it will continue to unlock new capabilities, keeping Total War at the forefront of strategy gaming for years to come. Additionally, Warcore will enable future Total War games to be released on PlayStation and Xbox consoles for the first time, opening up the franchise to an even wider audience.

In addition to the Medieval 3 reveal, Creative Assembly teased another major announcement, set for The Game Awards on December 11. This upcoming release will mark the next major chapter for the Total War series, described as “one of the most ambitious projects in the franchise’s history,” and will signify the beginning of an exciting new era for the beloved strategy series.
