Valve announced the official release of Counter-Strike 2, which will serve as both a sequel and a free upgrade to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). Previously, the game was exclusively accessible to CS:GO players through a limited technical test.

Counter-Strike 2 has now taken the place of CS:GO on the Steam platform. Valve stated "the commencement of an exciting new era and the most significant technological advancement in the history of Counter-Strike." Importantly, CS: GO players need not worry about losing their in-game items, as Valve assures that all items from CS: GO will carry over to CS2.
