Embark Studios recently shared numbers about ARC Raiders' first Expedition Project. More than one million players took the plunge and reset their accounts for a fresh start, choosing to leave the game's map behind in search of a renewed playthrough. This mechanic launched in December 2025 as a way for dedicated players to experience the early-game excitement all over again. By gathering specific items and building an "escape caravan," participants migrate out of the safe zone, earn permanent buffs like extra skill points, and begin anew with those advantages in place. The Expedition Project is built to recur every two to three months, keeping the option alive for veterans who want to keep things feeling new without losing everything they've worked for. With ARC Raiders estimated at around 12 million copies sold since its October 2025 release, the million-plus completions represent roughly 8% of the total player base. That's a solid showing for such a demanding, voluntary feature in a genre where progression is usually permanent.ARC Raiders has held strong at the top of the extraction shooter category since launch. The game earned widespread praise, awards, and massive visibility on streaming platforms, often outperforming long-standing competitors even months later.Despite the success, the first Expedition came with some friction. The biggest sticking point was the final stage: players needed to accumulate five million credits in stash value to unlock the full set of five free skill points—one point per million credits. Many saw this as an overly heavy grind, turning an aspirational goal into something that felt required.Embark has openly acknowledged the feedback. The team explained their thinking and plans to improve:"One of the bigger topics of feedback was the requirements for the final stage to get the skill points, and probably going out a bit too late with that information, because we wanted to hold off until we could calibrate it around the actual economy of the player base, rather than trying to guess really early on. So then, when we chose the number, which was the five million credits for the full thing, we set that as an aspirational goal that some players might achieve. But then I think a lot of players took that as like, ‘Well, now I have to do that to get it.’"The developers are actively working on adjustments. Future Expeditions will likely feature lower or more balanced credit thresholds, clearer upfront communication about goals, and tweaks to reduce the sense of obligation while preserving the sense of achievement.
