Sony’s Bend Studio has faced significant layoffs following the cancellation of a live service game project. The move, which impacted about a third of the studio’s workforce, comes after the company decided not to proceed with the live service concept it had been developing. While the exact number of layoffs remains unconfirmed, the news was first reported by Bloomberg. [[Companies/Sony|Sony]] has since issued a statement confirming the studio's shift in focus and the layoffs as part of an effort to position Bend Studio for long-term success. "Earlier this year, Bend Studio wrapped development on a live service concept. After careful consideration, we chose not to move forward with it," a Sony spokesperson shared. "As the team shifts focus to its next project, we've made strategic changes to better position the studio for long-term success. As part of this transition, a workforce reduction has taken place at the studio." The spokesperson emphasized that the decision was not made lightly, expressing deep appreciation for the contributions of those affected by the layoffs. "This decision was not made lightly, and we are extremely grateful for the meaningful contributions of all those impacted. Bend Studio has been a valued part of PlayStation Studios for decades, and we remain confident in its future and creative direction," the statement continued. The cancellation of Bend Studio’s live service project follows a similar move from Bluepoint Games earlier this year, both of which were confirmed alongside other developments within PlayStation Studios. Despite the cancellations, Sony maintains its faith in the talent and potential of both studios. "Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what the next projects will be," the spokesperson concluded.
