Valve has rolled out a new pre-release update for Counter-Strike 2, introducing key changes to defusal mechanics, engine performance, and user interface behavior. The update, version 1.41.3-rc1, was released to the CS2 beta depot on October 14, 2025, and marks the first significant tweak to core gameplay systems since two new Competitive maps were added on October 2. The standout feature of this update is a modification to bomb defusal behavior. From now on, when a player begins defusing, the weapon viewmodel will automatically lower, restricting the ability to scope in with certain weapons during the process. This change is designed to enhance realism and visual clarity, but it also alters how players interact with the bomb during high-pressure situations. Even more impactful is the introduction of a 150-millisecond delay before a player can fire their weapon after cancelling or completing a defuse. This small but critical window could alter the effectiveness of fake defuses, a common tactic used to bait out opponents during post-plant scenarios. Under the current mechanics, players can tap the bomb and immediately shoot to catch attackers off guard—but that dynamic may shift dramatically if this change goes live in the public build. In addition to gameplay changes, the update includes backend improvements to CS2’s engine. [[Companies/Valve|Valve]] has integrated the latest version of Source 2, aiming to optimize how the game processes various visual effects. Notably, the changes are expected to reduce CPU load when weapons are fired, potentially leading to smoother performance, especially on lower-end systems.
