SAG-AFTRA has reached an agreement with a group of major video game companies, potentially ending a nearly year-long strike by video game performers. The deal is now awaiting review and ratification by the union’s national board and membership. The agreement, part of the Interactive Media Contract, comes after extended negotiations with a bargaining group that includes Activision, Disney Character Voices, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, and others. A separate strike suspension deal is also being finalized, but the strike remains active until all terms are approved. "Patience and persistence has resulted in a deal that puts in place the necessary AI guardrails that defends performers' livelihoods," said SAG-AFTRA’s national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland. Union president Fran Drescher praised the performers, saying, "Their incredible courage and persistence... has at last secured a deal. The needle has been moved forward and we are much better off than before." The strike began in July 2024 after SAG-AFTRA failed to reach a deal to protect members from AI threats and ensure fair pay. In the meantime, over 160 games signed interim deals meeting union demands, which SAG-AFTRA said proves such protections are workable industry-wide.
