The deal is now awaiting review and ratification by the union’s national board and membership. The agreement, part of the Interactive Media Contract, comes after extended negotiations with a bargaining group that includes Activision, Disney Character Voices, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, and others. A separate strike suspension deal is also being finalized, but the strike remains active until all terms are approved. "Patience and persistence has resulted in a deal that puts in place the necessary AI guardrails that defends performers' livelihoods," said SAG-AFTRA’s national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland. Union president Fran Drescher praised the performers, saying, "Their incredible courage and persistence... has at last secured a deal. The needle has been moved forward and we are much better off than before." The strike began in July 2024 after SAG-AFTRA failed to reach a deal to protect members from AI threats and ensure fair pay. In the meantime, over 160 games signed interim deals meeting union demands, which SAG-AFTRA said proves such protections are workable industry-wide.
